Gurple and Preen by Linda Sue Park and Debbie Ridpath Ohi - ESSENTIAL

Gurple and Preen: a broken crayon adventure by Linda Sue Park, illustrated by Debbie Ridpath Ohi.
PICTURE BOOK. Simon & Schuster, 2020. $18. 9781534431416

BUYING ADVISORY: Pre-K, EL (K-3), EL - ESSENTIAL

AUDIENCE APPEAL: HIGH

The robots Gurple and Preen are in big trouble! They have crash landed and their “pods” (crayons) are scattered all over the terrain. They need help! However, as they break the pods, nothing that comes out seems to be helpful. As Gurple frets, Preen has a flash of an idea.

I heard Park talk about this book a bit over a year ago and was so excited to see it! The concept of breaking a crayon to release the item inside is going to lead to many, many more broken crayons – but crayons get broken all the time anyway. So cute!
