BUYING ADVISORY: EL (K-3) – ADVISABLE
AUDIENCE APPEAL: AVERAGE
The fairy Esther and her fairy friends are dedicated to study the world in a scientific way, while the other fairies experiment with their magic. When the local pond dries up, Esther and company are able to provide a scientific explanation – discovering the water cycle – even though they will have to wait for the pond to return from the clouds as rain.
The illustrations are just as cute the second time around. This time however, it feels like Spires is deliberately making the other fairies look stupid – saying things like “the moon sneezes make the ice disappear”. Good science – but it needs to make room for science and magic to coexist.
