Monkey and Elephant and a Secret Birthday Surprise
is about a monkey and an elephant. Both Monkey and Elephant have a secret they
tell each other. Monkey’s secret is that it is his birthday. Elephant’s secret
is that he is terrible at keeping secrets. Elephant tries very hard to keep the
secret the entire day, but ends up planning a party for Monkey. Eventually as
guests arrive, Monkey tells everyone that it is his birthday, and eventually decides
that birthdays aren’t so bad after all!
Monkey and Elephant and a Secret Birthday Surprise is
great for early readers at or about a beginning second grade level. The font is
large and the words are fairly easy to read. The story line is just marginal.
My daughter read Monkey and Elephant and
a Secret Birthday Surprise while
in second grade and it was excellent practice for her reading skills, but she
did not find the plot very captivating.
