Lana Lynn Howls at the
Moon is about a lamb
that tries to do everything that sheep do such as eating grass, drinking water,
and napping, and she is not pleased. She decides to go on an adventure. She
steels wolf skin from the shepherd and runs away. A wolf pack takes her in, and
she loves running with them and howling with them. They invite her in for
dinner, and at dinner, they offer her several animals to eat. The last animal
they offer her is her friend Shawn, a fellow lamb. She chooses Shawn, and says
she is going to eat him outside. She and Shawn run away unscathed. When she
returns after her adventure, she is tired, hungry, and thirsty. She realizes
that the life of a sheep isn’t all that bad. She is happy living the life of
the sheep, and only howls at the moon on occasion.
Lana Lynn Howls at the
Moon was a cute
spin on the parable “wolf in sheep’s clothing” because it explores a sheep
running off in a wolf’s clothing. It teaches that the grass isn’t always
greener on the other side, and the dangers of running with the wrong sort of
crowd. The illustrations were adorable, and had fun “Easter Eggs” for parents
if they look for them.
