Twinkle Thinks Pink! by Katharine Holabird, illustrated by Sarah Warburton. PICTURE BOOK. Little Simon (Simon & Schuster), 2014. $18. 9781534429178
BUYING ADVISORY: Pre-K, EL (K-3) - OPTIONAL
AUDIENCE APPEAL: HIGH
Twinkle is a fairy in training and she loves pink. At Fairy Godmother’s garden party, Twinkle goes overboard when she tries to add more pink to the garden and ends up turning the entire thing her favorite color. Fairy Godmother comes to the rescue and restores almost everything the the original color, except for a few pink roses.
I found the ending of this story a bit hard to follow. It doesn’t show the fairy godmother making the color correction, which is confusing, and the narrator makes a point of highlighting the flowers that remained pink only to have Twinkle change them to rainbow with some new selective power she has. But the glitter and all the pink will certainly appeal to some young pink loving readers.
