Francis loves his job crafting shoes for the locals in his village and has made quite a name for himself. When he finds out that his idol, singer Miss Manatee, wants a pair of his kicks, he's ecstatic. Unfortunately, he can't find one of his suppliers, and without him, Francis can't make the shoes Miss Manatee requested. Francis is not willing to let a little thing like that stop him, though, so he goes off to find the missing merchant, and has a nice little adventure along the way.

Graphic novels are extremely popular in my library, but I have trouble seeing this one really taking off. It's cute, but not particularly funny or gripping -- two qualities that make the most popular of our library's graphic novels, well, popular. My nine-year-old agrees; she is generally a voracious reader of graphic novels, but she did something she never does: she put this book down partway through and never bothered to come back to it. Honestly, this says a lot. That said, there's a tidy little lesson and a satisfying ending for those who read all the way through (which some undoubtedly will).
