Bilal is excited that today his dad is cooking daal and his friends want to help and join in the feast. But daal looks different than anything they are used to and smells kind of different. Plus it takes a long time to cook. But Bilal distracts his friends with all kinds of activities as they wait for the dinner treat to finally be ready.
I had no idea that daal is actually lentils! I love Saaed’s look at the daal process. Not only the emphasis on patience and slow cooking, but also the friendship and trying new flavors together. A great book for a class lesson before a cultural activity or just a friendly shared meal.
