In this retelling of the twelve dancing princesses, King Alberto locks his twelve daughters in the palace after the tragic death of their mother, the Queen. Devastated that they are no longer able to live and be free to learn and develop, these twelve princesses do all they can to hold onto life and not give up. Their only hope to break free of their father’s control lies in the memory of their mother.
This fairy tale retelling was very enjoyable to read with Burton’s version of the story and Barrett’s illustrations. The princesses are strong and clever heroines; their story can teach lessons to both young and old who read it.
