Ernestine may only be 5, but she can help around her family’s isolated farm. One day her mother asks her to take a journey down yonder to deliver milk. It’s not an easy journey; along the way she hears unfamiliar sounds, but each time instead of being something dangerous, it’s something familiar from the woods. Finally she makes her delivery safely.
Ernestine’s journey gives us a peek into rural life during the 1940’s – a very different time from what our kids live now. It would be great for a small history unit or talk about play – or just to show kids life in a different time. Read this aloud!
