The fox searches for food on the cold, white landscape and stumbles into the home of a white-bearded man who welcomes the creature. Together they sleep away winter to spring – when the man starts building and making toys of all sorts. And through the end of fall, which brings letters from all over. When the man invites the fox to help him distribute the toys, the fox understands.
Faber’s text and Jones’s illustrations combine for a dreamy, charming story of acceptance and love, centered around Christmas without being kitschy. Normally, I am not a huge Santa fan, but the depth within this book draw to it beyond the Santa-ness of it.
