A young frog has some "good advice for making friends". Like sitting under a tree and waiting, or giving everyone paper dolls you have made, or even saying high at least 40 times (if someone is shy). Some of his advice isn't very good, like talking to the stranger next to you during a movie or setting your aunt's bird free (the bird will fly away but will always remember what you did and be your friend). In the end, the frog gives ideas about things you can do by yourself.
AJ and I liked this book. The illustrations are fun - much of the story isn't in the text, but rather in the illustrations - while the frog is waiting under the tree, he doesn't see all the friends who are IN the tree, he doesn't notice the irritated face of the hippo at the movies as the frog reaches for her popcorn. AJ recognized that his ideas weren't working and saw that there were plenty of animals playing with each other, the frog just isn't included. We talked about other ways to make friends that might be more successful.
