BUYING ADVISORY: Pre-K, EL (K-3) – OPTIONAL
AUDIENCE APPEAL: LOW
Leopold is a bookstore-owning goat with a knack for matching the perfect book with a new reader. A visit to his shop gives every reader a wonderful new book to read. One day Leopold is thrilled to see another goat enter his shop! Leopold is sure this goat will love reading books as much as he does, until he starts to eat them! Leopold must find the best way to show the goat that books are for reading, not eating.
Montoya's illustrations make me feel like I'm in a cozy bookstore. Leopold is a caring goat - about his customers and about his books. Readers who know how important books are will feel an instant connection to Leopold and his predicament. This story can a launch great lesson and discussion about how we should treat books. However, the storyline is not captivating for little ones who haven’t built up that relationship with books. For a picture book, my child was not interested in exploring this story or characters more than once.
