Two wombats share their burrow to save other types of animals from the horrible fires; one more reluctantly than the other. Of course, they come to see that working together helps all of them.
Inspired by reports of animals finding safety in wombat burrows during the Australian bushfires of 2019-2020, the author creates a story of animals helping each other. The illustrations are soft and unfocused except for the expressions on the faces of the animals. This draws attention to the human qualities they are expressing. The end of the book includes a glossary and notes about the natural disasters being worsened by climate change. This would be a good book to include in an Earth Day type unit.
