A tiny seed is the last to start to grow, and so she must find the sunshine, weaving through the undergrowth in the meadow, with the help of a cricket, a mouse, a ladybug and a butterfly. Once she reached the sunlight, she began growing quickly, becoming a home for all kinds of animals By autumn, her leaves turned gold and the wind blew her seeds far and wide. Her friends said goodbye, but next spring . . .
I loved the metaphor that everyone grows at their own pace, and patience pays off. Beautifully illustrated, we learn the life cycle of a plant, from seed to seedling, to vine to healthy plant which produces seeds for next spring. I loved the transformation of the meadow through the seasons, and how the healthy plant was appreciated by all the different kinds of animals - butterflies and birds, crickets, moths, ants, bees and so many more.
