When a little girl moves in, she befriends an elderly neighbor who teaches her how to care for the birds and appreciate the quiet things. Together they hang bird feeders, share books, build bird houses, and watch chicks hatch. Through the seasons and the years, they cultivate a wonderful friendship - but when the neighbor passes away, and her house is torn down to make room for an apartment building, the girl decides to honor her friend by hosting the birds in her own yard.
Wordless, Cassidy and Casson tell this poignant story through panels like a graphic novel. The color pallet is blue, green, yellow and red, which gives the illustrations an old fashioned look. I loved the sweet relationship between the young girl and the old woman. I liked that it was wordless - I felt like another neighbor, watching them from my own window.
