Al-Qarawiyyin Library is the oldest continuously operating library. Originally started in 859 among its patrons were rabbis, mapmakers and historians, it housed books written in gold, and encrusted with jewels. It was a meeting place where discoveries happened and knowledge was shared.

Wow! I really want to visit and see the gorgeous restorations. An authors note gives just enough background information. Includes a glossary and references. Adani's illustrations were great, but I would have loved to see some photos with the authors note. Librarians will be excited about this, not sure the kids will be though. The library is located in Fez, Morocco.
