The author and illustrator of a book are fighting with one another over who has more power in the story. The two battle with the narrative and illustrations, changing the story to suit what they want.
Along with the humor of the two not getting along, "Author vs. Illustrator" also gives some information to kids about how books are published and the amount of people that it takes for a book to pull together. Both Lemke and Lentz make "Author Vs. Illustrator" interesting with funny jokes and silly illustrations, getting readers hooked in the first few pages. Although the two have their differences, we learn that for a book to come together, the responsibility of the author and illustrator are equal, and they need to work together in order to get the best book. A great pick for any kid.
