When a young child is awakened by thunder and lightning, the mother comes in and comforts, daddy takes them to the porch where they can safely watch the storm together, grandma lights candles when the power goes out, and grandpa turns the night into a party. But, most of all, they are making the child feel safe - but where are the pets?
I love David McPhail's illustrations. I feel safe is a great bedtime read on a stormy night or anytime a child needs a little extra reassurance. There are so many family members in this child's life to comfort and love them. AJ really liked I Feel Safe. She noticed all the different ways different people show they are taking care of the child. She said it made her feel safe. The family is Black.
