Ruby always has lots of ideas. One day she sees some blueberries across the stream. She suggests they go pick the berries and make a sweet treat. To get to the other side of the stream they have to cross it. Santiago won't let them cross. Ruby knows just what to do.
The story reminded me of the Norwegian story "The Three Billy Goats Gruff." Ruby is spunky and figures out how to get across the stream without Santiago. A delightful story about being brave and strong. The illustrations are vibrant and colorful. It would be fun to explore this story from different cultures and have the children find what is the same and what is different in the stories.
