AUDIENCE APPEAL: AVERAGE
Juno doesn’t know what to wear for school
pictures, but when her brother goes into her closet and Juno chases him, they
are both transported to a myriad of places where influential women pass on
their fashion pieces. Juno receives a pirate hat from Grace O’Malley and a pair
of shoes from Michelle O’Bama, as well as other articles of clothing from
well-known women. By the time Juno
returns home she has an eclectic outfit pieced together that Juno feels
represents who she is—herself.
The
bright, shiny cover will attract the attention of young readers and the
illustrations are adorable. The women
who were introduced in this book are influential women throughout history and I
liked the idea that they helped Juno to know she can be herself. I do wonder if younger readers will feel
confused by the brief, quick mention of so many characters. At the back of the book there are mini
explanations that describe the ten women that Juno encountered on her
adventure.
