Skila Brown's poems about all kinds of trains are beautifully illustrated by Jamey Christoph. Passenger trains like the bullet train and sleeper trains, freight trains, utility trains like the shoulder ballast cleaner (which is a concrete poem - in the shape of the train) even - one poem dedicated to the track and my favorite train, the Zoo Train!
Christoph's illustrations reminded me of the "Little Golden Books" of the 1960's. So nostalgic! The poems are great, even the title is onomatopoeia - say it a couple of times, you'll sound like a train. Includes a bunch of cool facts about trains, like what ballast is for, what an engineer's job is, and how trains are why we have time zones. Makes me want to pack my bags and take a train ride!
