Boulder, who sits atop a cliff's edge, and Cactus, who lives down below, have been friends for a long time, but from a distance. Boulder wishes to see Cactus's blooms up close, but solving the problem of proximity seems impossible. In the background, Rabbit quietly helps the two distant friends.
Salzburg has a fun story with an interesting cast of main characters: a rabbit, a boulder, and a cactus. I genuinely eagerly anticipated the resolution of the conflict in this story. I worried that an additional conflict would arise, and I paid careful attention to the details of the illustrations to see where the story would actually go. It was a very fun reading experience. I fully plan to share it during library story time and really build up the suspense and ask the students to predict the ending. I loved the simple dialogue (sprinkled with some witty banter) and the well-done, important illustrations that help tell the story. Just a delightful read!
