Snow Struck by Nick Courage

Content: G (some danger)

BUYING ADVISORY: EL – NOT RECOMMENDED

AUDIENCE APPEAL: LOW

Elizabeth and Matty are headed to NYC to spend the days before Christmas with their cousin Ashley, with their parents joining them later. First they encounter an unnatural heatwave and then a lethal snowstorm strikes – snowpocalypse. NYC is at a stand still. Unfortunately, Ashley’s little dog has escaped into the snow and ice and Ashley is desperate to find him.

You will have to suspend a whole lot of belief in order to relax into this and try to enjoy it. I just couldn’t. Each chapter brought a new level inanity, unbelievable coincidence, and implausible happening. I cannot buy the idea that three pre-teens and a dog would be the absolutely only creatures outside even in NYC during the worst snowstorm ever, or that any parent would let the 3 outside to search for said dog. And then the climate change lecture at the end – wow. Can’t.
