Young Julia Wells grew up in a small English country town where her mother played the piano and her father was devoted to her and her brother. But during the Blitz of WWII, her mother moved with Julia to London, where she hid in shelters during the bombings - singing to help keep people's spirits up. She took voice lessons and eventually joined her mother's stage show. She grew up to become the beloved Julie Andrews.
A well-told story, approved by both Andrews and her daughter, the author's friend Emma. I liked the illustrations a lot, Urbinati didn't try to make them look exactly like Andrews, which is refreshing. This is one of those nostalgia titles, and may be more recommended to Julie Andrew fans than something a child will pick off a shelf organically. I'm adding it to our picture book biographies for sure. Julie Andrews is British
