While the photographs of Coxe’s tableaux are the star, there are plenty of fun “long a” words for early readers to play with and learn.  Coxe is very clever with both words, using a nice variety, and her art.  So much fun!

This one made me laugh out loud.  I enjoyed Coxe’s clever illustrations and her story this time around.  There are ten books all together and I want ALL of them!

Come ends her exploration of short and long vowels with a whimsical look at a unicorn wanting to play the blues.  I found it amusing that it was the unicorn who was the rule-making fuddy-duddy for a change.  Now buy all ten books in the series!  Will Coxe now do a 21 books series fro each of the remaining letters in the alphabet? I HOPE SO!

Appropriate for a kindergarten or first grade reading level. There are also two darling photographs in the back with a story telling prompt for kids.

Told using short a sounds, this is a book that will appeal to first grade readers. The photographs of felt animals can be weird to readers at first but become increasingly engaging.

A group of friends is having a hopping race, but frog helps everyone out until he is too tired to go on and others help him. The photographs are so cute and the story will engage early readers.
