The world around the girl is "too loud, too busy and filled with too much of everything". She can't hear herself think! So she creates a safe space where she can go to find peace and quiet. When an intruder invades her quiet space, rather than immediately banishing him, she offers him a deal that he doesn't refuse, and ultimately the two coexist beautifully and the boy even helps the girl find comfort outside her safe space.
Both Li’s story and illustrations are gorgeous! The messages of cooperation, quietude, friendship, imagination and respecting personal space are powerfully and beautifully delivered. I absolutely loved this book!
Illustrations feature characters of different gender, race and ethnicity, including the two main characters who are depicted as Asian.
