Mr. Tiffin's students come up with big ideas, debate their ideas in class, hold votes and eventually get to take their bill proposal (to establish an official state cookie) to the state capital and meet with their state representative.
McNamara and Bernstrom have a fun, kid-friendly introduction to government and bills becoming laws. It's a simple civics lesson in a fun story with great illustrations. There's even some back matter covering various states with official state cookie laws, and a yummy looking cookie recipe is included. This book could definitely be a great jumping off point for a class project! Karas’s Illustrations feature characters of different gender, race and ethnicity, including the female state representative who light brown skin and wears a headscarf.
